QATSIF congratulates our two deadly QATSIF students who were awarded the 2024 Peter Doherty Outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander STEM Senior Student Award.
Shanae White - Blackwater State High School
Amy Jacobsen - St Patrick's College Townsville
This accolade is presented to exceptional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander senior Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) students who exemplify innovation and excellence in STEM education within Queensland. The award is valued at $5,000, which the awardee can use to fund activities associated with further study and engagement in STEM.
Shanae has been inspired to study medicine after her grandfather's battle with brain cancer. There is a beautiful and inspirational article on Shanae receiving her Peter Doherty STEM award in the NIT at: https://nit.com.au/30-08-2024/13329/ngunnawal-student-wins-peter-doherty-award-for-stem-excellence (link on QATSIF's Facebook page).
We are very proud that 27 of the 33 students who have won this prestigious award since its inception have been QATSIF students.
