Dr Ella Ceolin

QATSIF is very proud of Dr Ella Ceolin, past QATSIF student from Mt Alvernia College.

Dr Ella graduated from her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Queensland in 2022.

Since then Dr Ella has worked in central Queensland hospitals before moving to Logan Hospital in Brisbane.

Dr Ella has been an incredible supporter of both QATSIF and our young people. She has given her precious time to inspire students with her educational and career journey at many QATSIF events and has assisted with judging our annual QATSIF Creative Arts Competition over many years.

2024 Peter Doherty STEM Award Winners

QATSIF congratulates our two deadly QATSIF students who were awarded the 2024 Peter Doherty Outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander STEM Senior Student Award.

  • Shanae White - Blackwater State High School

  • Amy Jacobsen - St Patrick's College Townsville

This accolade is presented to exceptional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander senior Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) students who exemplify innovation and excellence in STEM education within Queensland. The award is valued at $5,000, which the awardee can use to fund activities associated with further study and engagement in STEM.

QATSIF's 7News Young Achiever Award Winners

The 7NEWS Young Achiever Awards QLD recognises outstanding young leaders with awards including the Kennelly Constructions Pty Ltd Aboriginal Achievement Award and the Queensland Family & Child Commission Contribution to Community or Family Safety Award (First Nations).

Emily Wurramara wins her first ARIA award

QATSIF congratulates the extremely talented Emily Wurramara (past QATSIF student) on winning her first ARIA award for the Best Adult Contemporary Album. Emily was also nominated for Best Independent Release.

We also congratulate the deadly Sycco (past QATSIF student) on her ARIA nomination for the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist award.

Tom's acting career soars to new heights

The deadly Tom Weatherall (past QATSIF student from Marymount College) recently made his commercial television debut playing Darren Yates in RFDS on Channel 7.

Tom made his TV acting debut in the 2018 ABC miniseries - ‘Deadlock’ and has also appeared in “Shed” (2019)

"Break a leg" Tom! (in the acting sense not in the RFDS / Health sense).

Rani named as the Highest Achieving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student in Queensland

QATSIF congratulates the deadly Rani Carmichael (QATSIF student from Brisbane State High School) who was announced as Queensland's Highest Achieving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student (2020).

Rani is currently studying a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours) at the University of Queensland.

Rani said about her award, "I'm inspired by my mother for her perseverance and success in her art career, and by my Aboriginal maternal ancestors. They survived and overcame countless hardships, allowing me to access the opportunities I have today."

Last year, Rani was also awarded a Peter Doherty Science Outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Senior STEM Student award and our QATSIF Young Indigenous Leader Award.

QATSIF is extremely proud to have supported four of the past six Highest Achieving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students in Queensland.

Kyle named as 2021 Queensland Young Achiever

Congratulations to Kyle Ryan (QATSIF Ambassador) on being named as the 2021 Queensland Young Achiever of the Year and as the winner of the 7 News Kennelly Constructions Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Achievement Award.

QATSIF is very proud to have supported four of the past six winners of the 7 News Kennelly Constructions Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Achievement Award, including two Queensland Young Achievers of the Year - Kyle Ryan and Justice King.

 - Kyle Ryan (Glenala State High School): Indigenous community work including: QATSIF Ambassador visiting Western Queensland schools; Inala Wangarra Board Member; InspireU camps; and Queensland Australian Indigenous Health Council’s Indigenous Youth Health Committee.

- Claudia Moodoonuthi (Clayfield College): painter renowned for her bold imagery and vibrant colours; honours her heritage and culture through her art; completed a Bachelor of Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art; many art prizes and exhibitions; Brisbane Festival artist.

- Zane Ratcliff (Burnett State College): Indigenous mentor; teaching Indigenous dance, sport and acting; School Captain; Commonwealth Games dancer; and Young Citizen of the Year award.

- Justice King (Spinifex State College): founder of “The Youth League”, a group of 12-18 year olds who voluntarily run youth events specifically to deter crime and provide young role models in their community; passionate youth mental health advocate and is actively involved with Headspace and RUOK? Day; appointed Youth Mayor of the Mt Isa Youth Council; and awarded the 2015 Young Citizen of the Year.
